TOP 5 WINTER CAR CARE TIPS FOR YOU AND YOUR VEHICLENov 9th, 2018
With winter right around the corner, we thought it would be a good idea to share our Top 5 Winter Car Care Tips. During some of the harshest weather of the year, these tips can go a long way in helping to keep you and your passenger’s safe on the road!
Tip #1: Check Your Tire Pressure
When the temperature drops, so does the pressure in your tires. Therefore it is important to ensure you check your tires at least one a week. Keeping your tires at the right pressure improves your vehicle’s ability to grip snow and ice. To find out what the right pressure should be, simply check your owner’s manual or the sticker found on the inside of your driver’s door. It’s also worth mentioning that most new Infiniti models come equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). A Tire Pressure Monitoring System is a safety device which alerts the driver to an underinflated tire, making it easy to keep up with tire maintenance.
In addition, you may also want to consider purchasing winter tires. Winter tires deliver superior braking and cornering in winter conditions such as snow, ice, and slush. Plus, they have a more aggressive tread, which in turn provides you with more stability on the road.
Tip #2: Test Your Battery
When the temperature plummets your car battery has to work harder to heat up the engine. Plus, cold weather can also have a draining effect on your battery. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to book an appointment with our Service Department, especially if your battery is older, so they can make sure it has enough charge to get you through the winter months.
Tip #3: Inspect All Your Lights
Due to the winter time change, the chances of you driving to and from work in the dark increases. Therefore it becomes a top priority to make sure your indicators, brake lights, front lights, and rear lights are in good working order. Equally important is making sure your lights are free from snow and ice before heading out onto the road.
Tip #4: Always Carry An Emergency Kit
Since you never know when a winter road emergency will occur, it is very important to keep an Emergency Kit in your car. Your Emergency Kit should include the following items: a shovel, gloves, an ice scraper, a blanket, a flashlight, plus some food and drink supplies. It’s also a good idea to make sure you have an extra phone charging cable.
Tip #5: Top Up Your Fluid Levels
You should ensure your antifreeze has been topped up before the cold weather hits. Antifreeze is very important because it stops the water in the engine’s cooling system from freezing. Also, ensuring you have a solid supply of winter windshield washer fluid is essential in providing you with good visibility – even in the worst of snowstorms!
