INFINITI WITHDRAWING FROM WESTERN EUROPEMar 15th, 2019
As part of a global restructuring plan, Infiniti has just announced that it will end vehicle production – specifically production of the Q30 and QX30 – at its Sunderland Plant in the UK by mid-2019 – as part of its planned withdrawal from Western Europe in early 2020. Withdrawing from Western Europe allows Infiniti to solely focus on its largest growth markets – specifically North America and China.
Also, as part of this global restructuring plan, Infiniti will electrify its vehicle lineup from 2021 onwards, as well as discontinue diesel offerings, while placing more focus on its SUV lineup in North America – while adding five new vehicles in China over the next five years. The need for this global restructuring plan is all part of the vision Infiniti has to become a top challenger brand in the premium segment.
In relation to the Sutherland Plant closure, Infiniti said it is “working to find alternative opportunities for any employees who would be affected, consulting with employee representatives where necessary and identifying opportunities for transition and training support where appropriate”. Infiniti is confident that their restructuring plan will support its long-term vision – as well as the success of the Infiniti brand – for its employees, customers, and shareholders.
