In honor of Japan’s unique appreciation of nature and craftsmanship, Infiniti designers were clear from the get-go that the all-new QX Inspiration would feature an interior space with organic materials and subdued colors!

Partnering with the famous furniture maker, Tendo Co., Infiniti designers were able to create a stunning, handcrafted cabin, with limitless appeal!  Tendo was founded in Japan in 1940, and has since gone on to become famous for its artisan woodworkers!

Mie Tanaka, Color Design Assistant Manager at Infiniti Motor Company, said: “Our first ideas and sketches for the interior were founded in this notion of creating a space that was more akin to a lounge or living space. We took advantage of the spacious layout enabled by the electric powertrain, and created a furniture-like expression for every element of the interior. At the same time, we wanted to explore a Japanese sense of beauty, tying the car to our cultural roots.

“We approached Tendo with this, and, while we had our own idea about how the QX Inspiration’s ‘furniture’ could look, Tendo’s many decades of experience in wood-working and design helped us to create something really special. The result is a beautiful, relaxing space that is rich in Japanese craftsmanship and materials. It is unlike anything we have been able to produce before.”

What’s also interesting is that Infiniti designers and Tendo artisans, decided to deliberately leave the knot in the grain of the cedar wood – adhering to the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi – which is the notion of finding beauty in imperfections!  Therefore the QX Inspiration offers an experience unlike any other vehicle – as it embraces what nature has created, rather than polishing out any natural imperfections!  The Result:  An exquisite cabin boasting natural serenity!

The QX Inspiration is a concept vehicle that defines a new era of Infiniti design, powered by exceptional performance and range.   Mike Colleran – Global Division VP of Marketing and Sales Operations – commented:  “The QX Inspiration marks the beginning of a new generation of Infiniti cars and establishes a direct blueprint for the brand’s first electric vehicle.”
